I donated pens, pencils and whiteboard markers to Otahuhu Intermediate School, a Year 7 - 8 decile one school. I was fortunate enough to meet with the lovely principal and support staff including the lady who manages the stationery shop at the school. They explained to me that they require the families to pay for a stationery pack at the start of the year but the staff explained to me that the stationery often gets used up before the end of the year so they would really appreciate pens and pencils. They also told me that teachers go through a lot of whiteboard markers so this donation of 768 whiteboard markers should hopefully help them with their teaching in the classroom. I was also kindly invited back to the school to share my journey with their students as they are currently delving into the big question of leadership and participation within/by organisations. I would just like to mention that for each of my donations to schools I ask the school what stationery they require and I also look at the ages of the students and the school roll to ensure that the donation is specific to the needs of the school in order to maximise the benefit of the stationery for the receiving school.
