Today I received a kind donation by impactNPO (http://www.impactnpo.org) of whiteboard markers, pens, paper, sticky notes, scissors, tape, blu-tack and other school items that will be well utilised. Emily.
Today I purchased three packs of 100 colouring pencils to donate to a decile 1 school at the start of next year. These will definitely be useful for the primary school students! Please get in touch if you have any pencils or colouring pencils to donate for the start of the school year as I am in desperate need of good quality pencils for students at decile 1 schools. Emily.
From the 9th to the 22nd of December I volunteered at Dratabu Village in Nadi, Fiji as part of a Care and Community Project of Projects Abroad. I stayed in the village with a local family and in the morning I taught at the local village primary school, Vunayasi District School and then in the afternoon along with eight other volunteers from Australia we painted the primary school. It was an amazing and unforgettable experience that has truly opened up my eyes to this part of the world. I donated 13kgs of stationery to the primary school including pens, exercise books, colouring pencils, rulers, erasers and more. I was able to meet with their principal who was very grateful for the stationery. He told me that some of the families were less fortunate than others as the children's dad or mum were unable to work, so they can not afford stationery supplies for the start of the year. Also he said that the families with lots of children have to prioritise and give the older children going to high school the stationery and books, therefore the younger children get what is left or nothing at all. Giving out the stationery and seeing the children's faces light up was the highlight of my trip and even a small item such as a pen can make a big difference to a child and their learning. It is great to know that this stationery will be well utilised by the children at the Vunayasi District School where they have a roll of around 100 children. Check out the photos below of me in Fiji donating the stationery to the children at the local village primary school. Emily.
I was lucky enough to receive a scholarship from my school to travel to Fiji for two weeks where I will be staying with a host family and volunteering at the local schools in Nadi. I am super excited about taking stationery I have collected and received from the local community and businesses. I am taking over 300 pens, 50+ erasers, nearly 100 books/notepads, colouring pencils and pens, liquid chalk, blu-tack, paper clips and 25 rulers to Fiji for the local schools in Nadi. Check out the photos below for all the stationery I am taking with me to Fiji to donate to the children and teachers there who are in desperate need of school supplies to assist the children in their learning. I am leaving this Sunday so will be without wifi until the 23rd so will be unable to check any emails sent to [email protected]. However please feel free to contact me and I will get back to you at the end of this year. Emily.
At the end of this school year, I collected NCEA textbooks and stationery from St Cuthbert's College senior school. The collection took place over the last two weeks of term 4 and I collected over 330 NCEA textbooks and lots of stationery! The majority of the NCEA textbooks hadn't been written in and these textbooks and other resources donated will be very useful for low decile high schools to use next year. The stationery collected from St Cuthbert's College is going to be donated to Manurewa East Primary school along with other stationery that has been donated to Paper Pens Pencils. If you are a student or know of anyone who would have NCEA textbooks, AME workbooks, ESA study guides and learning workbooks and StudyPass revision guides and fold-out notes from this year or previous years please contact me ([email protected]) as I will be donating NCEA resources at the start of this year but am happy to accept donations whenever. Thank you to my friend Lucy who helped me collect these books and stationery at St Cuthbert's and thank you to the students who donated! Emily.
I was made aware of the Global Social Leaders Student Competition through my school and was encouraged to participate in this competition as this not-for-profit enterprise I had started up aligns with many of the United Nations' Global Goals for Sustainable Development. This competition (www.globalsocialleaders.com/ggcompetition) supports young people to develop and implement a project that helps to address the United Nations' Global Goals and join a global movement of socially conscious leaders. This competition starts early December and ends on the 1st of May 2019. For this competition you are required to work in a team towards achieving the United Nations' Global Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Lucy and I chose to work towards are quality education, responsible consumption and production, sustainable cities and communities, and reduced inequalities. While we have chosen a lot of SDGs that we see are similar to the goals of Paper Pens Pencils already, we know that the two of us aren't capable of solving these global issues however what matters is that our small positive change will contribute to the global movement. Emily.
