This month I was awarded the Local Hero Award for 2020 for my community service through Paper Pens Pencils. It was such an honor to receive this award and be surrounded by incredible women and men. It was so inspiring to hear the stories of the other Auckland region winners. Emily.
Through the Rotary-Akina finalist evening, I had the pleasure of meeting fellow Rotarians, Rosie and her husband. They were travelling to Fiji to volunteer, a trip organised by Rotary New Market and staying at the island Taveuni to restore the eyesight of locals who were blind or had poor vision. I was very keen to assist in helping the children in Taveuni and gave thirty Naman stationery packs for Rosie and her husband to donate. The stationery packs were donated to Buca Levu Girls School and I was told the girls were very pleased to get them and the teachers were very appreciative. A photo of the kindergarten class from this school visiting the hospital is below. Thank you so much to Rosie and her husband for approaching me about a donation of stationery to the children in Taveuni and for donating the stationery to the school. I am in awe of you both volunteering your time and resources to restore peoples' eyesight! Emily.
