Thank you so much to Naman Limited who donated 180 DOMS Tri-Power Kits each containing a pencil, ruler, eraser and sharpener. Naman also donated packs of pencils, whiteboard markers and dusters, chalk, colouring pencils, paint pots and chalk holders. These stationery items will be greatly appreciated by schools as the stationery packs allow each child to have the necessary stationery items to learn. Naman Limited is a new stationery company in New Zealand and sells some fabulous stationery for very reasonable prices. You can check out the website here: www.naman.co.nz Emily.
I am so honoured to have recieved the Community GirlBoss Award. "The GirlBoss awards (sponsored by Trade Me) are a nationwide search for trailblazing young women (ages 11–18) who are defying stereotypes and creating change in their communities. We celebrate inspiring young leaders, facilitators, role models, and innovators. (www.girlboss.nz/girlboss-awards)" This award has allowed me to reach out to more people about my not-for-profit organisation Paper Pens Pencils and raise a greater awareness for the need for stationery at schools across the Pacific. I already have people contacting me with donations which is amazing as my mission is ongoing with many schools on my waiting list. For those who don't know I started Paper Pens Pencils back in 2016 after discovering that I had accumulated unused stationery items that I didn't want to throw into landfill. I did some research and found that many children were turning up to school with no basic educational supplies like pens, pencils and exercise books. Not having these items was creating a barrier to their learning. I came up with an idea that seemed like a win-win, stop unused stationery from being thrown into landfill and helping the environment while giving students the necessary items for their learning so they can get a fair start at school and have the opportunity to achieve. I want to ensure that all pupils have access to essential educational resources, so that every student can reach their full potential. A very special thank you to Alexia Hilbertidou who founded GirlBoss for being the inspiring women you are and I am so grateful I was able to meet you. A huge thank you to Auckland Council for sponsoring this award, especially to Rachel Kemp and Megan Tyler who went through all the applications! Thank you to the Auckland Council team for coming along on the night to support me, I loved meeting every single one of you! Finally thank you so much to everyone who has supported Paper Pens Pencils and donated stationery, it is greatly appreciated! Below are some photos from the GirlBoss event. I donated whiteboard pens, glue sticks, pencils, pens, ring binders and library books to Flat Bush School, a decile one school in Otara. I met with the lovely principal, deputy principal and associate principal who were very appreciative of the donation. The associate principal Janetta Mayerhofler showed me around the school where I was able to go into Room 1 and hand out the stationery. The kids were very excited and grateful of the stationery they were receiving and showed their appreciation through giving me lots of hugs! I also received a lovely email from the associate principal herself thanking me for the donation of stationery which I have attached below. Emily.
I donated to Mayfield Primary School, a decile one school with a roll of nearly 400 Year 1 - 6 students. I donated whiteboard markers, pens, pencils, exercise books and library books. The library books were kindly donated by the St Cuthbert's College library. I met with their principal, receptionist and a past student of my school. Emily.
