I am so honoured to have recieved the Community GirlBoss Award. "The GirlBoss awards (sponsored by Trade Me) are a nationwide search for trailblazing young women (ages 11–18) who are defying stereotypes and creating change in their communities. We celebrate inspiring young leaders, facilitators, role models, and innovators. (www.girlboss.nz/girlboss-awards)" This award has allowed me to reach out to more people about my not-for-profit organisation Paper Pens Pencils and raise a greater awareness for the need for stationery at schools across the Pacific. I already have people contacting me with donations which is amazing as my mission is ongoing with many schools on my waiting list. For those who don't know I started Paper Pens Pencils back in 2016 after discovering that I had accumulated unused stationery items that I didn't want to throw into landfill. I did some research and found that many children were turning up to school with no basic educational supplies like pens, pencils and exercise books. Not having these items was creating a barrier to their learning. I came up with an idea that seemed like a win-win, stop unused stationery from being thrown into landfill and helping the environment while giving students the necessary items for their learning so they can get a fair start at school and have the opportunity to achieve. I want to ensure that all pupils have access to essential educational resources, so that every student can reach their full potential. A very special thank you to Alexia Hilbertidou who founded GirlBoss for being the inspiring women you are and I am so grateful I was able to meet you. A huge thank you to Auckland Council for sponsoring this award, especially to Rachel Kemp and Megan Tyler who went through all the applications! Thank you to the Auckland Council team for coming along on the night to support me, I loved meeting every single one of you! Finally thank you so much to everyone who has supported Paper Pens Pencils and donated stationery, it is greatly appreciated! Below are some photos from the GirlBoss event.
